Emanuel van den Broeke

Emanuel van den Broeke has studied Psychology, with a speciality in Biological Psychology, at the Radboud University, The Netherlands. He obtained a PhD at the Department of Anaesthesiology, Pain and Palliative Medicine of the same University. After obtaining his PhD, Emanuel continued as postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute of Neuroscience, at UCLouvain in Belgium (in the lab of Prof. Mouraux). At present, Emanuel is working at the Department of Health Psychology of the KULeuven. His main research interest is how pain may become persistent and his current focus is on the phenomenon of central sensitization. His research involves both healthy volunteers and patients. Emanuel has published more than 40 publications in top ranked journals such as PAIN, J PAIN and J PHYSIOL and received several grants such as the EFIC-Grünenthal award, the ESA-BJA and the Queen Elisabeth Medical Foundation grant for young investigators in Neurosciences.
